1. n. [Drilling Fluids]

The mineral form of lead sulfide, PbS, and the most common ore for lead smelting. In drilling muds, powdered galena has been used, although rarely, to construct extremely high density (kill-weight) muds by taking advantage of its 7.5 g/cm3 density.
